Grand Bay Beach has the most modern resort facilities and restaurants and is the most developed. It has some of the best hotels and beach resorts, ranging from luxury villas to cheap bungalows suitable for all budgets. There are plenty restaurants to choose from and there is also a marina, the centre point for all kinds of water sports like scuba diving and jet skiing. Since the water on this beach is shallow, it is a perfect beach for families.
Close to the Grand Bay beach is the black River Gorges national Park, which is a popular hiking destination with its natural rainforest, spectacular waterfalls and wildlife.
There are other beautiful beaches as well, like the Mont Choisy beach, which is the longest beach in Mauritius. The Pereybere beach has a deep lagoon which is perfect for snorkelling and other water sports.
Another popular beach destination is the Blue Bay Beach, on the eastern coast of the island. With crystal clear blue waters, the Blue Bay beach is close to the town of Mahebourg which has some resort facilities and hotels.
There is also the Tamarin Bay beach on the southwest coast of the island. Famous for its beautiful scenery, it is a big hit with surfers and hikers. From here one can see the volcanic mountains from prehistoric times. For those interested in outdoor activities, there is the Yemen National Park, through which the Tamarin River passes. There are many ecotourism tours and safaris available for those interested in outdoor activities.
